FS(Fielding Share, 필딩셰어)의 수비범위 측정원리

현재 가장 뛰어난 수비 지표는 OAA(Outs Above Average)입니다. OAA는 야구시합에서 나오는 모든 타구를 추적하는 스탯캐스트 시스템으로 집계한 통계를 이용한 수비 지표입니다. OAA는 아직 MLB에서만 측정되고 있으며 계산된 값은 2016년 시즌부터 제공하고 있습니다.

NPB에서는 아직 OAA가 측정되고 있지않으며 가장 뛰어난 수비스탯은 UZR(Ultimate Zone Rating)입니다. UZR은 MLB에서도 DRS(Defensive Runs Saved)와 함께 OAA 다음으로 신뢰도가 높은 수비스탯으로 알려져 있습니다. NPB의 UZR은 데이터스타디움과 델타 두 업체에서 산출하고 있습니다.  NPB에서 UZR이 측정되기 시작한 것은 오래되지 않았고  과거의 UZR은 산출이 불가능합니다.

MLB에서도 UZR은 2002시즌, DRS는 2003시즌부터 존재하기 때문에 그 이전에는 다른 수비 지표를 이용하고 있습니다. 실황(Play-by-play) 데이터를 기반으로 만들어진 TZ(Total Zone), DRA(Defensive Regression Analysis), FRAA(Fielding Runs Above Average)같은 수비 지표들이 있습니다. 하지만 레트로시트같은 사이트에서 PBP 데이터가 공개된 MLB와는 달리 NPB는 PBP 데이터가 공개되지 않고 있습니다. 그렇기 때문에 NPB는 PBP 데이터를 활용한 수비 지표도 만들기가 어렵습니다.

PBP 데이터도 없다면 남는 것은 자살, 보살, 실책같은 기본적인 수비 기록 뿐입니다. 기본적인 수비 기록을 기반으로 한 수비 지표로는 FR(Fielding Runs), RRF(Relative Range Factor)같은 지표들이 있습니다. 하지만 NPB STATS에서는 기존의 수비 지표로는 불충분하다고 판단해 FS(Fielding Share)라는 수비 지표를 만들었습니다.

 

주요 수비 지표 개념

수비율 (Fielding Percentage, FP): (자살+보살)/(자살+보살+실책)

레인지 팩터 (Range Factor, RF): (자살+보살)/9이닝

존 레이팅 (Zone Rating, ZR): 처리한타구 / 책임타구

수비율은 실책이 기록원의 주관에 좌우된다는 문제가 있습니다. 그래서 실책을 배제하고 자살과 보살로 평가하는 레인지팩터가 나왔지만  수비할 수 있는 기회가 얼마나 있었는지를 리그평균으로 간주했다는 문제가 있습니다. 같은 이닝이라고 해도 처리할 수 있는 타구 숫자도 같지는 않습니다. 존 레이팅은 책임타구를 명확히했기 때문에 수비평가를 더 정교하게 할 수 있게 되었습니다.

 

수비이닝 대신 BIP(인플레이타구)

수비 범위 평가를 정교하게 하려면 ZR처럼 각 포지션별로 처리한 타구 개수와 책임타구 개수가 둘 다 필요합니다. 각 포지션별로 처리한 타구 개수는 쉽게 알 수 있습니다. 외야수는 자살이 그대로 처리한 타구 개수가 됩니다. 내야수의 경우 자살과 보살 그대로 사용할 수는 없지만 대략 추정이 가능합니다. 하지만 포지션별로 책임 타구가 몇개인지는 알 방법이 없습니다.

RF: 처리한 타구 / 수비이닝

ZR: 처리한 타구 / 책임타구

RF와 ZR의 근본적인 차이는 바로 분모에 있습니다.  9이닝동안 타구 3개를 아웃시켰다고 하면 타구 4개 중에서 아웃시킨건지 5개 중에서 아웃시킨건지 알 수가 없습니다. 3/4(처리율 75%)와 3/5(처리율 60%)는 큰 차이입니다.

RF로 수비 평가가 제대로 작동하려면 같은 이닝동안 책임타구가 비슷할 것이라는 가정하에 성립할 수 있습니다. 그러나 1시즌의 표본으로는 전혀 충분하지 않습니다. 팀 전체로 봐도 투수의 삼진율에 따라 책임타구 개수에 큰 차이가 날 수 있습니다. 투수진이 삼진을 많이 잡는다면 그만큼 인플레이타구가 줄어들므로 처리 타구도 줄어들게 됩니다. 2022년 DeNA와 요미우리의 수비이닝은 1274이닝으로 동일하지만 인플레이타구는 DeNA 3725개(추정), 요미우리 3840개(추정)으로 100개 이상의 차이가 납니다. 이렇게 이닝이 같다고 해도 투수진의 삼진율에 따라 처리할 수 있는 타구 개수에 차이가 나므로 이닝을 분모로 하는 것은 적절하지 않습니다. 그렇기 때문에 기준을 이닝 대신 BIP(인플레이타구)으로 변경하는 것이 좋다고 생각됩니다.

처리한타구/이닝 ->처리한타구/팀BIP

그러나 분모인 책임타구가 팀전체의 인플레이타구라는 문제가 여전히 남습니다. 팀 전체의 인플레이타구 개수가 4000개라고 할때 이중에서 700개가 유격수 쪽으로 갔는지 800개가 유격수 쪽으로 갔는지 알 수 없습니다.

 

책임타구

책임타구를 정확히 알기 위해서는 ZR처럼 타구위치 데이터가 필요합니다. 하지만 타구위치 데이터가 없는 상황에서는 책임타구를 추정할 수 밖에 없습니다. 일단 선수가 아웃처리한 타구와 실책출루를 허용한 타구는 그 선수의 책임이라고 가정할 수 있습니다. 다른 포지션의 수비 구역을 침범하는 경우가 있긴 하지만 구분할 수 없으므로 고려하지 않습니다. 그럼 남는 것은 안타입니다. 안타는 책임을 특정할 수 없으므로 포지션별로 책임을 공유합니다.

책임타구: 아웃 + 실책출루 + 책임안타

포지션별 안타책임율은 각 포지션의 아웃점유율과 동일하다고 가정합니다. 아웃점유율은 매년 조금씩 차이가 있습니다.

겐다의 소속팀 세이부: 1273.3이닝, 3694BIP, 2659아웃, 46실책출루(추정)

겐다: 957이닝, 360.4아웃(추정), 4.7실책출루(추정)

겐다의 책임안타: 957/1273.3*(3694-2659-46)*0.1758 = 130.7

겐다의 책임타구: 360.4+4.7+130.7=495.8

겐다의 타구처리율: 360.4/495.8= 0.7269

겐다의 평균대비 아웃 기여도: (0.7269-0.7077)*495.8=9.5

겐다의 수비범위 득점: 9.5*0.72=6.9
